Use the Diagnostic LED code to isolate the failure.
NOTE: Workstation beeps are emitted from the chassis speaker. The flashing lights and beeps repeat for five cycles. After five cycles, only the flashing lights repeat.
Blinks red 2 times (once per second), then a 2–second pause, and then 2 beeps.
Thermal shutdown has occurred:
Ensure that the workstation air vents are not blocked.
Open the access panel and press the workstation power button.
Verify that the system fan is running.
Verify that the processor heatsink fan spins. If it does not spin, ensure that the fan cable is plugged into the system board connector. Ensure that the heatsink is properly seated.
Replace the processor heatsink.
1. Blinks red 3 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause, and then 3 beeps.
Processor is not installed:
Install the processor.
Reseat the processor.
If the issue persists, replace the processor.
2. Blinks red 4 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause, and then 4 beeps.
Power failure:
Perform the power supply self-test.
Open the access panel and ensure that the necessary power supply cables are connected to the system board.
Locate a faulty device by removing all devices and then reinstalling one at a time until the workstation fails:
Disconnect AC power to the workstation.
Remove all devices.
Reinstall a device.
Reconnect AC power.
Replace the device causing the failure. Continue adding devices to ensure all are functioning properly.
Verify the power supply functionality.
Disconnect AC power.
Remove all internal power supply cables from the system board.
Plug in AC power.
If the power supply fan spins and the LED illuminates, then the power supply is good. Replace the system board.
If the power supply fan does not spin or the LED does not illuminate, replace the power supply.
3. Blinks red 5 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause, and then 5 beeps
Pre-video memory error:
Ensure that the memory modules are loaded correctly in pairs.
Reseat memory modules.
Replace memory modules one at a time to find the faulty module.
Replace third-party modules with HP memory.
Replace the system board.
4. Blinks red 6 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause, and then 6 beeps
Pre-video graphic card error:
Reseat the graphics card. Power on the workstation.
Replace the graphic card.
Replace the system board.
5. Blinks red 7 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause, and then 7 beeps
System board failure (ROM detected a failure before video):
Replace the system board.
6. Blinks red 8 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause, and then 8 beeps
Invalid system ROM based on bad checksum. Entering FailSafe (Boot Block) recovery mode:
Reflash the system ROM (FailSafe Boot Block ROM Recovery).
Replace the system board.
7. Blinks red 9 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause, and then 9 beeps
System powers on, but is unable to boot:
Replace the system board.
Replace the processor.
