How to delete the System or Recovery Partition on Windows PC

We can use the Disk Management tool in Windows to manage partitions. But we can't delete the system or recovery partition using Disk Management. We can delete the system or recovery partitions using the diskpart command in any version of Windows.

In this blog post or video, I am going to show you, how to delete the System or Recovery Partition on Windows PC.

Please Note

Deleting the system or recovery partition is not recommended. Windows typically includes three partitions on your main drive.
  • EFI system partition - This is used by modern PCs to start (boot) your PC and your operating system.
  • Windows operating system drive (C:) - This is where Windows is installed, and usually where you put the rest of your apps and files.
  • Recovery partition - This is where special tools are stored to help you recover Windows in case it has trouble starting or runs into other serious issues.
These partitions are generally pretty full with really important files your PC needs to operate properly. It's best to just leave them alone to do their jobs starting your PC and helping you recover from problems.

To delete the System or Recovery Partition:

  1. Open Administrator: Command Prompt.
Open Start >  search cmd > right-click on the top result and select Run as administrator.
On UAC, click on the Yes button.
  2. Type diskpart and press the Enter key.
  3. Type list disk and press the Enter key. This displays all the disks on the computer.
  4. Type select disk # (where # is the number of the disk with the recovery partition) and press the Enter key. This specifies the location of the disk to receive focus.
  5. Type list partition and press the Enter key. This displays the partitions on the disk that has focused on the computer.
  6. Type select partition # (where # is the number of the recovery partition) press the Enter key. This specifies the location of the partition to receive focus.
  7. Type delete partition override and press the Enter key. This deletes the System or Recovery Partition.
And that’s how you can delete the System or Recovery Partition on Windows PC.
