So far, Nvidia has used a variant of the GA104 GPU to power the RTX 3060 Ti graphics card . However, this may soon change as the Nvidia 511 Studio driver introduced a new ID for the RTX 3060 Ti SKU, suggesting we may be getting a third variant of the mid-range graphics card.
According to VideoCardz , the RTX 3060Ti appears in the Studio 511 driver with a new ID of “2414”, which corresponds to the GPU’s GA103 PCI device family. This was then confirmed by @kopite7kimi who clarified that these new RTX 3060 Ti cards will use the GA103-200-A1 GPU.
Since Nvidia is using a new GPU for the RTX 3060 Ti, it’s possible we’ll see an improvement in the stock of the card. Some retailers have stated that they have not received a single batch of RTX 3060 Ti graphics cards in months, leading us to believe that Nvidia is prioritizing the production of higher-end cards such as the RTX 3080 and 3070 series. These higher-end cards use the same GA104 GPU as the RTX 3060Ti cards, so it makes sense for Nvidia to maximize profits by using these dies on more expensive models.
If Nvidia does use the GA103 GPU on the RTX 3060 Ti cards, don’t expect the core specs to change as despite rumors of the GA103 GPU having 7680 CUDA cores it would like to see some SMs disabled for the 3060 TI . However, this will likely affect the card’s overclocking capabilities and power consumption, hopefully for the better.
