How To Fix Unable To Type in Windows 10 Or 11 Search Bar

Fix Unable To Type in Windows 10 Or 11 Search Bar

On Windows 10 0r 11, Windows Search is an essential feature that allows you to find virtually anything on your computer (such as documents, pictures, videos, system files, apps, emails, and settings) very quickly. Also, thanks to its integration with Bing search, you can use the feature for quick access to web pages and answers to common questions from the result preview.

Although search is a useful functionality that we take for granted every day, it'll come the time when it'll stop working as intended. For example, sometimes, search queries will show none or incomplete results. The search box in the taskbar will turn unresponsive or won't open at all, and more.

When Windows Search isn't working, there are a number of symptoms you might run into. Maybe you can't type into the Windows 10 or 11 search bar, or your files or apps aren't showing up in the results.

Let me show some easy method to solve your problem-

1. Update Your System-

Microsoft constantly releases updates to fix security issues, install new features, or patch known problems. So if you’ve missed the chance to update to the latest Windows version, you might run into all sorts of problems, including the on-screen keyboard malfunctioning.

Launch Windows Settings and head to System > About to check if your system is up to date. If you're not using the latest Windows version, you can schedule Windows to update so it doesn’t interrupt your current activities.

Restart your computer. Yes, this is an obvious and typical solution to most computer issues, but it's also one of the easier things to try when attempting to fix search problems.

2. Check Windows Services-

Windows uses the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel service to ensure the functionality of the on-screen keyboard. So if the service stopped running, you’ll notice issues when trying to use the virtual keyboard.

Here is how you can check this service:

  1. Press Win + R to launch a Run dialog.
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. From the Services list, open Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel.
  4. Make sure the service is running.
  5. Set Startup type to Automatic.
  6. Click Save > OK to save your new settings.
  7. Restart your computer and check if the on-screen keyboard is now working.

3. Restart File explorer-

  1. Open task manager.
  2. Locate windows explorer.
  3. Right click on it and choose restart.

Hope this helps...

Note: For me I followed method 1 and 2 and it was solved.
