* Trusted Research Environments (TRE) enforce a secure boundary around distinct workspaces to enable information governance controls to be enforced.

* The default public IP for your WordPress Amazon Lightsail instance changes if you stop and start your instance. A static IP address, attached to an instance, stays the same even if you stop and start your instance.

* What features Lightsail does and doesn't offer compared with other AWS services

Larry Ellison introduced OCI at Open World 2016.

* OCI's first 10TB of regional data egress is free per month. In AWS, the first 100 gigabytes per month of data transfer out from all AWS Regions (except China and GovCoud) is free & in Azure first 5GB / Month is free.

* Compartments are a logical construct that create security and billing boundaries for all resources within OCI, and they map really nicely to real world cost-centers, projects and/or operational teams.

VMware has acquired ~51 companies. Today we can categorize the solutions in 4 main areas:

  • Apps & Cloud (multi-cloud, Telco Cloud, Tanzu, Cloud Infra, HCI, CMP)
  • Networking (NSX, AVI, TSM, SD-WAN, SASE, HCX)
  • Workspace (Workspace ONE, Horizon)
  • Security (Carbon Black, NSX FW, NSX IDS/IPS)

* Windows 10 closed captions will display text of the words spoken in the audio portion of a video, TV show, or movie. To customize closed captions, go to Ease of Access (Windows Logo Key + U) then select Closed Captions.

* By default, most stereo audio experiences send some sounds to the right channel or speaker and some sounds to the left channel. Windows supports mono audio, so that you can send all sounds to both channels.

* Web select helps you to copy formatted web content such as tables, headers, and images. Just right-click on your browser window and choose Web select, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + X. Then select and drag the + cursor to highlight the content you want and choose Copy.

* Influence is a muscle that can be built through exercise, learning, and reflection.

* In 2005, Matt Mullenweg, one of the founders of WordPress, started a company called Automattic to make WordPress easy to adopt for anyone. Many of the core contributors to WordPress work at Automattic today. The result was a service called WordPress.com, a fully hosted version of WordPress.  Automattic started WordPress VIP, a dedicated platform catering to enterprises’ unique needs.

Duplicator WordPress Migration Plugin can handle zero downtime migration.

* The pacemaker was an accidental invention.  American engineer Wilson Greatbatch stumbled upon the pacemaker when he fit the wrong sized resistor to a heart recording device causing it to beat like a heart rather than capturing the sound of it. Inventing was Greatbatch's lifelong passion. Greatbatch patented more than 325 inventions, notably a long-life lithium battery used in a wide range of medical implants. He said, "Nine things out of 10 don't work. The 10th one will pay for the other nine."

Eggs are full of coiled-up protein molecules. Heating the proteins makes them uncoil and link up with one another to form a three-dimensional lattice, transforming a runny raw egg into a firm, rubbery cooked egg. This scaffolding helps give baked goods their structure. - NYT

Gokul Rajaram, known at Google as one of the godfathers of AdSense, still remembers fondly the night before it launched. His team had been given less than six months to complete the program, and that night he and Google co-founder Sergey Brin spent five hours debugging what would soon become one of Google's biggest cash cows.

* In 1981, Narayana Murty founded Infosys, the company that would go on to make him one of the richest men in India. After his master's degree in electrical engineering and one failed IT business, Mr Murty borrowed 10,000 rupees (£100) from his wife to set up the new firm. In a matter of years Infosys had created a global delivery model for outsourcing IT services from India, making the company millions. Mr Murty served as CEO until 2002 when he took on the role of chairman, before stepping back to a role of chairman emeritus. Forbes puts his net worth at $4.5bn (£3.45bn), while Time magazine refers to him as the "father of India's IT sector". Mrs Sudha Murty, a computer scientist and engineer, who was the first woman to work for India's largest carmaker, has also worked for Infosys, and is now a philanthropist and member of the Gates Foundation.

* Akshata Murty has a 0.91% stake in her father Narayana Murty's tech empire Infosys, which puts her estimated net worth of around £500m above the Queen's. Chancellor Rishi Sunak married Akshata, the daughter of the so-called 'Bill Gates of India' - Narayana Murty, in 2009 after they met at Stanford University in 2005. Akshata founded her own fashion brand Akshata Designs, which saw her featured in Vogue in 2011. She is also the director of the venture capital business Catamaran Ventures UK, which her father started in 2010. Rishi Sunak was elected as the Conservative MP for Richmond in 2015. She lives in Number 11 Downing Street with Mr Sunak and their two daughters but is still an Indian citizen....it has emerged that Akshata Sunak held non-dom status, which means she did not have to pay UK tax on her international income. In a newspaper interview the chancellor insisted his wife pays tax in all the countries she has business in and as a private citizen her financial affairs should not be up for public debate....the chancellor had held a US Green Card up until last year. Green card holders must pay US tax on their worldwide income and pledge that the US is their forever home. - Sky News

* Non-domiciled residents are people who live in the UK but are deemed to have their permanent home, or domicile, abroad. Famous non-doms reportedly include Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and metal tycoon Lakshmi Mittal. The concession is enjoyed by more than 75,000 mainly foreign nationals. Critics say it is unfair because it allows those with the status to enjoy the benefits of UK infrastructure without being subject to the same tax rules that apply to most people.

* A domicile is usually the country which a person’s father considered to be his permanent home, at the time when the person was born. However that can change if the person moves away from that country and does not intend to return.

* Collectively, the top 400 Americans paid an average tax rate of 22 per cent from 2013 to 2018. The amount of income taxed at the advantageous rate and the ability to muster large deductions -- are the main drivers of lower tax rates for those with the highest incomes. The typical American would have to work for 25,000 years to make $1 billion.
